ATV at Hacienda Campo Rico.
A 2,000-acre working hacienda with miles of trail, ten minutes from the front door. Single-rider ATV through forest, fields, and a working ranch.
The Activity
The closest adventure to the house.
Hacienda Campo Rico is a 2,000-acre estate in Carolina that you'd never know existed from the highway. It's a working hacienda — cattle, mango groves, and forest — that opens part of itself up for ATV tours. You get suited up, you get a quick orientation, and then you're loose on a trail network for about two hours.
The terrain is varied: open fields, jungle trails, a few small water crossings. Single-rider and double-rider options. The pace is yours — you can sprint or you can take pictures.
Why people love it
Most ATV tours in the Caribbean are gimmicks — a fifteen-minute loop through a parking lot. This one is a real ride, on a real ranch, with real trails. And it's right next to San Juan, so you're not losing a day to driving.
Why I love it
It's the activity that fits inside a half day without taking the rest of the day from you. Pickup near the house, two hours on the trails, lunch on the way back, and you've still got the afternoon for the beach. The single-rider option matters — if you've never ridden an ATV before, it's the difference between "I rode an ATV" and "I drove an ATV."
Bonus: it's the closest of any tour on this guide. Most days you can leave the house at 9 and be back by 1.
Pro tips
- Wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty. The trails are dry-season dusty and wet-season muddy.
- Closed-toe shoes required. Sneakers are fine.
- Sunglasses (or the operator will give you eye-protection — wear it).
- If you have a Bluetooth GoPro, helmet-mount it. The first-person clips are great.
- Take the single-rider unless someone in your group literally cannot drive. Doubles are just less fun.
- Tip your guide — they ride sweep through dust for a living.
The logistics
- Duration: about 2 hours on the trail; 3 hours door-to-door
- Difficulty: easy-to-moderate — they cover all skill levels
- Restrictions: minimum age for drivers (check at booking)
- Pickup: the hacienda is in Carolina, ~10 min from Santurce
- Distance from the house: shortest of any tour in this guide
