Things to DoOn the Water

Jet Ski Through San Juan Bay.

Your own jet ski, your own throttle — through San Juan Bay, around El Morro from the water, past Old San Juan with the city's lights on your shoulder.

The Activity

The bay, on full throttle.

The Bay Cruise tour is for sitting and watching. This is for driving. After a quick orientation at the marina, you're on your own machine, in a tight group, with a lead guide who knows the wakes and the wind lines. The route loops through the bay, hugs the El Morro headland, swings past Old San Juan, and gives you long open stretches to actually open it up.

The Bay is the perfect water for it: protected, deep, and lined on three sides by some of the most photogenic city in the Caribbean.

Why people love it

Because there's a specific kind of fun you can only get on a jet ski, and you get to do it with five hundred years of fortress wall in the background. The guides also pick up groups that haven't been on a jet ski before — they'll have you sorted within the first ten minutes.

Why I love it

It's the bay activity that does NOT require dressing up. You wake up, drive to the marina, ride for an hour and a half, and you're back at the house by noon with salt in your hair and the rest of the day in front of you. Perfect for groups with mixed energy — half does this, half goes to the beach, everyone meets back up for lunch.

Pro tips

  • Reef-safe sunscreen. Bay water moves around.
  • Polarized sunglasses with a strap.
  • Don't bring expensive jewelry. Anything that comes off your finger is gone.
  • Wear quick-dry — your shorts will be soaked.
  • The morning slot is calmer water. Afternoon has the chop.
  • Listen to the lead's instructions about wakes. Crossing wrong gets you wet, fast.
  • The El Morro stretch is the photo. Phone in a tethered case if you want it.
